Our family shelter is a seasonal emergency severe weather shelter in October, November, and April. During those months it is open only when the temperature will drop below 20 degrees or below 32 degrees with rain or snow.
About
The Family Winter Shelter started as a severe weather shelter only, and will
continue to be so in October, November, and April.
However, after implementing a beta program last March, we discovered how much more impactful we can be by staying open every night. Most of the
families in the shelter are two parent, working families or actively looking for work. When families don't have a reliable place to stay every night, the kids
and parents go to school and work disheveled, or don't go at all for fear of
being found out as homeless. With the families staying every night, we can
build relationships and help them solve problems and shorten their time on
the streets. In light of this, the shelter will be open every night December 1st through March 31st. The goal of the shelter is to provide warm housing in
the cold months, to invest in the lives of the families, shorten amount of timehomeless, and create an environment to eliminate shame.
